The Bodum Bistro: Ode To A Beautiful Toaster

We like toast, it's a quick snack or even dinner sometimes. But our love for toast is matched by our hatred for cleaning fingerprints off the side of the toaster. That is, until we saw the new rubber exteriors on these brightly colored versions, from Bodum. Is it wrong to call a toaster sexy?

We like the idea of having well used appliances on the counters, but we also love the idea of adding colors to our spaces with more than just flowers. This 900 watt toaster can take on bread slices and bagels alike with adjustable-width slots. It also boasts a warming rack and heat resistant rubber exterior, so not only does it look good, but it will stay cool to the touch! Plus, it's available in 8 knock out colors.

They're available for $79.95 from Sur La Table and for $79.99 over at Amazon, sometimes with a free cutting board (oooh, ahhh).

Gorgeous!! I rarely toast anything, so I would buy it just to stare at it.

Hmm, well, I hate to sound crotchety, but the design kind of looks too college dorm-ish for my taste. But maybe it would work in the context of a kitchen that already had a lot of bright colors.

Hubba hubba!

And would the rubber exterior keep it a little cooler (she asked, nursing a burn from this morning's encounter with the toaster....)?

klt108 - The product information on several websites is boasting that the rubber does in fact keep it cool to the touch, which in our book, no matter what it looks like is a win win situation!

Bodum's newer product line has items I much prefer to this toaster, such as double-walled porcelain cups with silicone sleeves in the same variety of bright colors.

I like this. I have actually wanted to buy a toaster for some time as I find myself making toast quite frequently and hate to turn my oven on just for that. But I hate uni-taskers and would rather buy a toaster oven. But, I don't have enough room for a toaster oven and a small toaster would fit just perfectly. And so it goes......

Totally cute, but does it make good toast?
Because I've alredy fallen victim to form over function ala the sleek, modern DeLonghi DTT900: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0002XGKCW
the problem is, it sort of makes crappy toast.

So yes, I love this and I'm dumb enough to pay $80 for a toaster AGAIN especially if I can get it in chartreuse rubber, but it has to work as good as it looks this time.

Anyone have one??

The white one is very cool. I still think the Breville toasters are the standard though.

I don't really like the toaster I have now - it's hard to clean and not so nice in appearance. But these do look college/locker/dorm-like.

These toasters are hardly sexy. They look like the appliance equivalent of a 12yr old girl 80s wardrobe.

Hmm. There is a difference between sexy and flashy... wonder how durable they are?

My new favorite toaster is the back to basics egg & muffin toaster. No kidding, it poaches the egg while you toast the muffin. I put it in my office and it's fantastic.

Here is a blog I put up on it: http://blog.toaster-shop.com/blog/egg-and-muffin-toasters
