Sure, in culinary school they taught us to make a bandana-like ring out of a dish-towel as a base for mixing bowls to prevent them from hopping across the counter. Very French, but it's a pain.
Here's a great solution to the fatigue one can get from whipping cream, making sauces, and stirring batters in unweildly mixing bowls: the OXO Stainless Steel Mixing Bowls with a special nonskid coating on the outside.
They are available in 1-1/2, 3 and 5 quart sizes. Buy all three and you have yourself a nesting set of bowls that should cover all your mixing and marinating needs.
The bonus is that they're actually handsome, and won't muss up your sleek, clean kitchen like a lot of other specialty kitchen gear out there.

These are sweet, and I have the set of them on my registry, but the only drawback I can see is you wouldn't be able to use them as a double boiler. Not a huge drawback, though.
