On the Move: Three Good Pie Carriers

2008_11_10-piecarry1.jpgPies are certainly one of the easier desserts to transport. They don't slide around like cupcakes, and you don't have to worry about layers toppling, like with a frosted cake.

However, it can still be tricky to protect the top of a pie without damaging the pretty edges of the crust, especially if it's delicate and flaky (here's hoping). And with Thanksgiving coming up, we know many of you may be heading to family members' houses with pies in your lap. With that in mind, here are three good carriers to will hold your cargo...

If you have a larger cake carrier, you can use it for pies—just set your pie on a dish towel to keep it from sliding around. Any other tips for transporting pies?

I have a round Rubbermaid container similar to the Tupperware container pictured above. It's a little deeper, and if the fit is tight, I sometimes use it upside down, putting the cake or pie on the lid and snapping the bowl down on top of it so I don't have to fuss with trying to extract it from the container.

We also have the tupperware container, and often use the lid as the base.

Every Thanksgiving I bake 3 or 4 pumpkin pies for the Salvation Army's Thanksgiving dinner, I just go to the grocery store and ask to be sold the clear plastic pie containers from their bakery. They hold the disposable foil pans perfectly, and since I have no interest in getting any items back it's a good way to go. They only charge me about $.60 for each one. (Also can be done for family member's and friends who don't like returning things too!)

Thanks bobcat--we're having Thanksgiving in Mexico this year and may need to travel with pie!
