New Oven Mitts and Pot Holder from BUILT NY

2009_03_04-BuiltGloves.jpgWe are fans of BUILT NY's bright, stretchy, and well-made wine totes and lunch bags. We've mentioned their cute lunchbox and their picnic duffel too. Now they're expanding into kitchen tools as well: they want to help you make your lunch, not just carry it.

2009_03_04-Potholders.jpgThey recently released two different kinds of oven mitts, and one double-sided potholder. They are all made of neoprene — like a wetsuit! — that is heat-resistant up to 500°.

The Renzo oven mitt is shaped like a glove; it looks like it would fit the arm much more smoothly and easily and allow for greater freedom of movement. The Arlo mitts are even longer; they are intended for safe grilling. We really like the looks of the pot holder, too; it has pockets you can slip your hands into.

One of the things we dislike about oven mitts is how clumsy they make us; we'd rather have a simple cloth or pot holder that doesn't make us more likely to drop the pan. This mitt, however, may be much better for maneuvering.

Or not... has anyone tried these?

Renzo Oven Mitt, $15
Arlo Oven Mitt, $18
Milo Pot Holder, $12

I had neoprene oven mitts from another manufacturer, and finally had to throw them out, as I burned through them eventually, and burned my hand, when lifting hot oven racks.

I'm hoping leather works better.
