I don't own a KitchenAid mixer ... partly because I always wished it came with a glass bowl that would allow me to see what was not mixed in by the beater. I will be THRILLED if this bowl goes into permanent production!

I'm crossing my fingers that you'll be able to buy just the bowl for those of us with the mixer. Here's hopin'!

You know, after years of arguing with myself over buying one (the price, mostly), I finally bought one this year...and now they're making a special edition one! Go figure.

Any word on if those glass bowls will work with the 6-quart stand mixers? It doesn't look like they will...

I want to buy just the bowl, too. Maybe it will work with my recent KitchenAid, or maybe it will work with my grandmother's, from the '60s, whose original glass bowl I broke spectacularly too-stiff Christmas cookie dough.

While I really like the concept, and measuring abilities I'm personally a bit wary of using glass. I drop things...a lot.
I'm also a bowl-lift, wide bowl mixer girl, I do wonder if they'll make the bowl for all the models.

Love me my KitchenAids though! I'm threatening my middle sister, who is flying home in May, to make her take me to the KA factory in SW Ohio for my b'day!

That solves the whole microwaving thing with the metal bowl. (Right now I melt things in the microwave in a separate bowl, but that means one more dirty bowl.)

The microwave thing is a good point - I don't have a microwave and never would have thought of that, but it totally makes sense.

I still like the look of the stainless better, though...

Wouldn't the glass bowl be a lot heavier than a steel one? And a lot more durable if it were Pyrex?

oh those are lovely! I want to add my voice to the chorus. I hope they sell the bowl individually too, I would love to have it in addition to my steel bowl.

My mother has a cookie recipe that seems to work much better in her glass bowl mixer than in her KitchenAid. She thinks there is a difference with the way the butter whips. I've wondered about the reaction of recipes with citrus in the metal bowl, so I'd love to get a glass bowl for the KitchenAid I've already got.

Speaking of bad timing, Sexy Anteater, I kept putting off buying my KitchenAid thinking that I'd just register for it. A year after I gave up and thought, can't put off a mixer for a man, I got engaged. Oh well!

just out of curiosity, do new bowls/attachments fit old mixers? i got a hand-me-down that appears to be pretty old, and i'm wondering if the twist and lock mechanism has changed at all over the years. anyone know?

Ooh, Lindsey, I have no idea myself, but it looks like you need to go visit the KitchenAid Forums! I spent a lot of time there figuring out which mixer I wanted. There's a lot of great info there (and great people) there.

I put a new metal bowl in my grandmother's KitchenAid from the '60s (see comment, above), and it sort of worked, but it also wrecked the metal things that hold the bowl, so when I finally got another glass bowl, it kept coming loose and eventually broke.
