The new color is called "Yellow Pepper" and it is frankly, right on the money - this IS the color of a fresh, shiny yellow bell pepper. According to KitchenAid, "Yellow Pepper was inspired by three things that cooks eagerly await this time of year, summertime, farmers’ markets and fresh garden vegetables." The choice of this color is very much in keeping with the choice of "Mimosa" as the Pantone color of the year for 2009.
We saw an early prototype of the 90th Anniversary model last year, with its retro glass bowl: Coming Soon: 90th Anniversary KitchenAid Stand Mixer. This anniversary model will come in Candy Apple Red. There is a definite metallic edge to the vibrant color, giving this a bit of glitz and a retro feel - it's very "hot rod". It features a clear glass bowl (which had been the original design, before the advent of the stainless bowl that is the current norm) and a special anniversary insignia panel.
The glass bowl is a good look (and seems fun to use!), and while it is exclusive to this model in 2009, the bowl will become available for general purchase in 2010. You will be able to interchange a stainless and glass bowl for your mixer - a nice option.

The glass bowl looks cool but I am curious if anyone thinks it has value. What does it do that the stainless doesn't do?
I know you can see the contents and stuff and I am sure it has pyrex-like strength. But I assume the metal chills faster and is sturdier.
I am very curious. I LOVE my kitchenaid AND its accessories. We use the meat grinder and pasta attachment all the time. One of the best christmas presents ever was two extra mixing bowls and an extra wisk attachment. It makes the holidays so much easier.

The glass bowl seems to have measurement lines on it while my stainless bowl doesn't. On the other hand the metal bowl is unbreakable which to me makes more sense.

The yellow is so pretty! I like the glass bowl too, though sometimes an unbreakable bowl would be nicer. The glass just looks so cool & I like the measurement markings.

I can't really justify another Kitchenaid mixer, but man, I can't wait to get my hands on that glass bowl.

Before I had a Kitchenaid, I used an old Oster Kitchen Center that had two glass bowls. I loved them! The were indestructible! While I love my new mixer, my heart still goes to the old Oster because of it's multi-tasking abilities. It was a mixer, a food processor, a blender, plus it had all those other attachments like meat grinder and pasta maker.
I still have the bowls, I use them all the time.

Well, you can microwave glass. That's one bonus. Glass could hold the chill longer if that's what you want.

I suppose the glass bowl would let you see if there's anything on the sides or bottom of the bowl that still needs to be incorporated...

The glass bowl is better for sourdough, for example, or anything else with very acidic ingredients that might react with the metal. It also stays chilled better for things like whipping cream.

I would like to get a glass bowl to fit into my kitchenaid. do you think they will ever sell them separately?

The article says they will sell them in 2010.

They will start selling them the beginning of 2010. I think the advantages are: microwave safe, you can see what you have in the bowl thoroughly, there are measurements on the bowl, and glass is easier to clean/maintain.

Glad to hear that they will have the glass bowl for sale next year. I love my stand mixer and have 2 stainless bowls, and would love a glass one.
They should sell them for Christmas I know they would be on a lot of peoples wish list.
