Acorn Cakelet Pan from Williams-Sonoma

2008_10_20-Acorn.jpgUh oh - watch out! Williams-Sonoma and Nordic Ware are at it again.

2008_10_20-Acorn2.jpgThis is a new seasonal pan, made by Nordic Ware just for Williams-Sonoma. The pan makes up to 18 little acorn cakelets, and even the pan itself is shaped like an acorn.

Nordic Ware's pans are always very well made; we have an elaborate castle cake pan from them, and it has always performed beautifully. Great baking, easy cleanup.

Of course, these seasonal specialty pans are not nearly as flexible and multi-function as an ordinary cake pan, but it can be fun to have one or two around. We especially like this one because of its small cakelet openings; you could use it for bran or corn mini-muffins; mini oatmeal cookies; cupcakes and chocolate flourless cakes.

This pan also seems well-designed and less demanding for the baker. Some of these specialty pans seem to depend on post-baking decoration; we suspect it takes a lot of work to make their proposed cake look like the picture on the packaging. But these acorn cakelets seem to be much simpler - no decorating or special work required.

What do you think?

Too cute! Unfortunately I live in the world's smallest apartment and can't store something like this.

Cute, is this supposed to be like a madeline pan something?

this is cute, and useful. Now I need to decide if I can justify the cost for a pan that only does one thing. If only my home wasn't named "Acorn Cottage".

I have a really hard time convincing my friends that I do not want more acorn things, lest my home turn into the all acorns all the time 24-7 acorn channel, and then you have to post this... Aaaargh I want it now

I want ALL of these neat pans (and have way more then is normal) but the 36 for one pan is my stopping point- i will wait till next year and it's on ebay for 10! Hurray for ebay :)

Why or why did you have to post this? This is the cutest pan I've seen in years - seriously, if this wasn't $36, I would order this immediately.

I love this pan - totally swooned when I got the catalog. Now if only there was a way to get it for free...

I'd love one, but they are a bit expensive, And they don't seem to ship overseas, which would up the cost as well!!

I also wonder if it isn't too big for my wee oven....

too bad, because I like it lots!!!!

Very cute! Maybe not practical for me since I'm not so much of a baker as I'm a cooker.

This is very cute, though a little expensive. Considering the political climate, its pretty timely.

Cute, but I like the corn on the cob shaped cornbread pan from Crate & Barrel better. It can be used for summer BBQs too, not just in the fall!
I also have and love the castle cake pan, as well as the football stadium I got on sale at Ralph's market for $9.99...seriously! Fiance is a big Chargers fan...being from LA where we haven't had a team since I was in middle school, I might as well like the Chargers too. Anything is a better option than the Oakland Traitors...oops...Raiders.
Anyhoo, if you're looking for cheaper novelty baking pans, try Linens N Things. $36 at WS is a bit much.

I too have the sand castle cake from Williams Sonoma and I love it. I bought my friend the octopus cake pan that they had over a year ago, but because its so detailed its impossible to frost without using fondant. Anyways, I don't entertain enough to need this stuff, but its just so much fun.
