When I was home in Kansas City a few weeks ago, I commented on my parents' new spice rack. I noticed it sitting on the countertop, holding just the handful of spices my mother uses most often.

But when I asked about it, I got a surprise — this "spice rack" was something I already owned!

"Honey, it's just a drawer organizer turned on its side." What? Seriously? Mom, you're a genius!

My love for my mother's simple solution probably isn't revelatory to many, but it was to me. I've often looked at countertop spice racks, but many have larger footprints than I've wanted to introduce into my work and prep area. They're ugly little tiered things that try to contain all the spices instead of just a select few.

This bamboo drawer divider made the perfect holder for the things my parents cook with most often so they're not digging in the pantry. Since it's intended for use inside a silverware drawer, it's slim in size and isn't a counter hog. High-five, mom!
