Through some good ol' fashion elbow grease and some serious DIY — the Smiths were able to create the home of their dreams in an old warehouse in a rather small town in the Midwest. When I saw their kitchen I would have imagined it would be in downtown LA but boy was I wrong!
The kitchen is actually extremely straight forward and pretty basic — but that's what I love about it. The industrial shelving turned cabinet space is ideal for a converted warehouse and looks perfectly at home next to the shelving above the counter. I'm typically one for all white dinner and servingware but I can really appreciate the influx of color and interest that their dishes bring to the space.
Interestingly enough (after seeing the whole house) Meredith's proudest DIY is the chalkboard refrigerator! I've read horror stories about how difficult the project can become, but it looks as though their fridge turned out perfectly. I'm a huge advocate of chalkboard paint on the fridge because it turns an important staple into an even more important and versatile appliance. Plus, they look really cool!
A feature that I can't forget to point out is their ability to reuse everything. The island is a metal table they picked up from a local establishment and used IKEA stools to make into a kitchen table!
