The small, portable, and frankly genius Sky Deck table is a mini table designed to "wrap" itself around the rails of balconies or fire escapes, giving you just enough horizontal surface space for a small plate and something refreshing to drink.

The table was designed by Japanese firm Torafu Architects in collaboration with Ishinomaki Laboratories, based in the city of Ishinomaki, which was devastated by the tsunami in March of 2011. The tables are manufactured by people in that region in an attempt to support and reinvigorate the local community.
What do you think? I love the idea, and if I was at all DIY-inclined, I'd try to replicate it myself.

it would be perfect if it had some sort of lip around the edges to prevent things from accidentally being knocked over (and onto unsuspecting people below!). Otherwise, I like it!
I would totally get this. I have a fire escape which is nice for outdoor drinks that you have to hold, but not much else.
this is beautifully made and useful but being a person whose still shudders at the possibility of my ac unit falling from the window, i'm not at all comfortable with the idea of this.
I'm hacking this one. I have a rail on my apartment patio and was considering getting railing planters but they're always too small and usually ugly. With this I could use a regular pot. Sweet.
ps. I don't think I'd do that if I wasn't on the first floor.
