Somehow we survived the year without a dose of Don Draper, and just like a warm spring day, here comes the two-hour season 6 premiere of Mad Men just in time for our happy hour. For those of us who've been patiently filling our Sunday nights with Downton Abbey, Girls, and Walking Dead, it's time to break out your shakers and crack some ice. The guys and gals of Madison Ave are back to drink with us. Are you ready? More importantly is your bar?

After the Mad Men season finale aired last season, I felt a serious void. How would we ever make it through the year? For this week’s 10-Minute Happy Hour we’re toasting its return with an oldie but goodie — the Sidecar.

These frosty sips have made appearances in past seasons along with Martinis, Manhattans, Old-Fashioneds, and Stingers. Really any cold cocktail will suffice when throwing a Mad Men premier party. Just be sure to put out some Utz potato chips in your chip-and-dip serving set, a few bowls of bar nuts, and for a little added flare, packs of candy cigarettes.

Sidecar Cocktail

Serves 1

3/4 ounce freshly squeezed lemon juice
3/4 ounce Cointreau
1 1/2 ounce Cognac
Lemon wedge and sugar, for rim, optional
Garnish could also be lemon twist

If you prefer the traditional sugar-rimmed glass, run the wedge of lemon around the edge of a martini glass to moisten. Dip the rim into sugar.

In a cocktail shaker filled with ice, add the freshly squeezed lemon juice, the Cointreau and the Cognac. Shake until well chilled. Strain into the the martini glass and enjoy.
