Other highlights: Talking about diets is a sensitive and tricky thing. Talking to people about changing their diets is even trickier. After spending some time with this book, I feel that Rebecca Katz and her co-author Mat Edelson do a really nice job of having this conversation and keeping it engaging! Longevity Kitchen certainly doesn't read like just another gimmicky diet book; it reads like an honest and well-informed cookbook devoted to healthier eating.

The first fifty pages of the book are devoted to an in-depth look at the relationship between food and your body, the ingredients to keep stocked in the pantry (and why), and the best foods and recipes to focus on with your particular medical condition. If this kind of eating is new to you or if your doctor has recommended you significantly change your diet for medical reasons, the information contained in these fifty pages will be invaluable. 

They're also like a sigh of relief — a new diet doesn't mean total sacrifice! It can mean exploring your spice cupboard, getting up close and personal with sweet potatoes, and discovering what a squeeze of citrus can do for your simple lunch salad. 

The recipes help to bring it all together. Paging through the book, entire meal plans fall into your lap. The recipes are simple and sound universally tempting. Someone who's used to a diet of meat and potatoes might need a little time to get used to something like a miso glaze on their cod or farro mixed with kale in a salad, but there are plenty of more familiar recipes to ease the dietary transition.
