We still have a few posts on books and food up our collective sleeve, but we also want to give you a chance to participate. We're giving away six copies of American Artisanal - one of the latest chapters in the continuing story of food in America. New stories of old food in a beautiful book; it's the perfect reward for the challenge we have in mind.
To learn how you can still win a copy of this book, read on... This is a lightning quick challenge to close out a month of hungry reading. We are challenging you to cook a dish or an entire meal inspired by a book. It can be a novel, poetry, a child's picture book, an essay, or another form of book. No cookbooks, though - we'll leave them out!
Maybe you've always been curious about some of the made-up foods in your favorite fantasy novel and want to recreate one. Maybe you want to try Proust's seminal madeleines for yourself. Maybe you want to try a fish from the sea in honor of Hemingway's tragic old fisherman. Maybe you want to be the Emperor of Ice Cream.
We're taking the first six qualifying reader entries and sending them a copy of American Artisanal - watch for a review soon! This was just released this month by Rizzoli. It tells the stories of some of the artisanal food producers affecting the American food scene today. It's a very fitting continuation of all the food stories we love here.
Here's what you need to do to enter:
• Choose a passage from a favorite book to inspire your meal or dish.
• Cook the meal or dish yourself and take photos.
• Use the form below to submit the book you were inspired by, along with a brief quote, and three photos of the dish or meal. (Photos must be taken by you or someone in your household.)
We'll post as many as we can, and again, the first six will receive copies of American Artisanal, published by Rizzoli.
We can only ship books to those of you with a US address, unfortunately. Also, please note that this needs to be a new project - not one that you've posted previously on another blog. Happy reading, and happy cooking!
