We've shared a few tips before on how to best separate eggs, but this trick made us stop in our tracks. We can't understand a word of the video, but the visuals are so compelling that we don't need to. Prepare to be amazed:
The suction of the plastic bottle whisks up the egg yolk quickly and without breaking it. How cool is that?

I AM AMAZED. I want to separate some eggs now, just because. haha
This is super cool, but I don't get all the fuss about eggs. For instance, I have always cracked them against edges (counters, bowls, etc) and never broke the yoke. I use the shell-to-shell method and it works really well. It just usually seems like some arbitrary rules for doing something that's quite simple.
Fun for kids! And my husband :)
If I only had to do one or two, I'd separate them by passing them back and forth in the shells. But if I had to do a bunch, this would be awesome!
How long before someone patents and sells a special suction based egg separator?
This is awesome. I could watch her go back and forth between those bowls all day.
I'm with the crowd that doesn't understand all the crazy things people do to separate eggs (I use my fingers, but whatever works for you), but... this is crazy awesome. I kind of want to try it sometime, just to see if I can make it work.
best trick i have learned in YEARS. Thank you Cambria
Wow! That makes me want to make something where I need to separate my eggs, or maybe I'll just try it for fun!
Sometimes I dont' want to use my hands.......this is perfect for those times. Looks fun too.
Cool, but yeah, I use my fingers too.
BRILLIANT!!!!!
WHAAAAAAAAAT. This is awesome.
And I knew even before looking at the comments that half of them would be, "Pfft, so what? Real cooks--pros like me--use the shell-to-shell method. I AM NONPLUSSED, SIR."
Hmm, her egg looks especially fresh, though--I wonder if this would work as well with one that's been refrigerated for a week or two (or who knows, with supermarket eggs.) Still cool!
No, Therascalqueen, her egg is not super-fresh. As eggs age they dehydrate little by little. If the yolk is nice and firm like this one, the egg is probably a couple weeks old. Still plenty fresh to use.
But a very fresh egg's yolk could be too fragile to use this method.
I am going into my kitchen and doing this RIGHT NOW.
<grin>
Absolutely AMAZING! WOW!
Just.Wow. Can't imagine an occasion where I'd actually *need* this technique but that in no way detracts from it. I can hear me now, "Yeah, sorry breakfast is late....I was playin with the eggs."
Actually...facin a solo dinner tonight. Think I'll have eggs.
Wow! Interesting method..I think I might stick to using my fingers or the shell-to-shell method though-less clean-up!!
Fun!
This is crazy amazing!! Simple x Effective! Love it.
its really brilliant thanks for this great tip..

I think it's cool too. :)
She put the cap back on the bottle after passing that yoke back and forth!
This is awesome in theory, but I never have plastic bottles laying around. Maybe an extra large baster with the tip sawed off would work just as well.
It just occurred to me where this might be useful (I usually do the shell-to-shell thing, too). What if the shell-to-shell thing screwed up (sometimes the shell breaks in the wrong place) and the yolk dumped into the white? You could use the bottle to get it out cleanly, as long as the yolk didn't break when it fell.
I actually tried it this weekend. Went through 3 eggs before I said Screw It and went back to the tried and true method of of using the shells to separate the yolk and white. It's really cool, but I guess I have to practice not breaking the yolk while doing it.
I can see using this trick to make fried eggs with perfectly centered yolks: crack the egg into a dish, extract the yolk, pour the egg white into a frying pan on the flame, then when the white has set just a bit, neatly plop the yolk on top, dead center.
Riffing off the "perfectly centered yolk" idea: You could also freak someone out by serving what looks like a single fried egg with four yolks arranged in a perfect grid.
there really is no better way to say it: fuck yeah.
Cool! Don't even care if it's not "the best" way -- it's just cool!
Did it first time. Really fun, and it leaves a strange clean hollow in the white.
Was today an unofficial "egg" day? The post directly before this one in my Google Reader was another video showing this exact same method of egg separation. Looks like fun and useful if needing to separate a lot of eggs, but usually I just use my fingers or the shells.
Amazing, this is just too cool, I just tried it now with a mini dasani bottle and showed this trick to my dad.
