What recipes have you searched for in the last year? Food blog The Daily Meal went on a mission to discover the most popular foods of 2012, the ones that people search for online again and again. The resulting list is an interesting snapshot of a country's culinary inclinations. Curious to see what they say is the #1 searched recipe in America? See the list below:
To get this list, The Daily Meal started by collecting data from data common food searches and leading search engines. Then, once they had discovered what foods the country was craving, they set out to find out what people wanted to do with those foods.
By using average monthly searches for highly searched recipes, we crafted a unique algorithm that weighted The Daily Meal searches against other search engines to yield a search score for each recipe that would help us rank the recipes. We even had a little help from our friends over at Pinterest who helped us develop a list of the most searched recipes. By starting with popular ingredients, we were able to come up with a comprehensive list of the most popular recipes searched for over the past year.

Elizabeth Apron fro...

Ha-ha, I hate to say it, but these results could go a long way toward explaining the nation's weight problem. Not a vegetable on the list!
Heather, I was thinking that too! Of course, vegetables are pretty intuitive and don't always need a recipe, but I don't think that's the only reason they're not on here.
However, it is encouraging to see so many home cooks tackling challenging projects like bread and pizza dough!
We are a carb- and animal protein-heavy people, that's for sure.
Many people just write off a vegetable when they try it once and don't like it. The trick is to keep trying different things until you find ways to cook them that you *do* like. That requires recipe-searching. Whereas the food in the list above are all pretty easy to like.
Yes, comments above all true...but I still have to add that those Simple Rosemary Rubbed Pork Chops are sublime! I make them with amazing meat from the farmer up the road from us, but this preparation (on the grill) really puts them over the top.
oh, banana bread, yeah that was probably me. i must've done dozens of searches trying to find something that fits with the keto diet *and* heart disease - induced diets.
