Ten Things I Love: Alicia's Spicy Black & White (and Pink!)

2009_2_23-fav-things-alicia.jpg 2009_02_23-Thumbs.jpgIn Thursday's email I showed you ten things I love from my mother's kitchen, and I asked you to show us ten things (or in this case, nine) you love in your own kitchen. Many of you have replied, and we're going to show you some of our favorites! Here's a black and white checkered kitchen with some great spice storage, fresh flowers and lots of baking.

1. My silver containers (flour, sugar, brown sugar, powdered sugar)

2. My "lazy Susans," such functional kitchen organizational tools for spices and such.

3. My beloved pink Kitchen Aid mixer, in which I enjoy making pink marshmallows and icing among loads of other baked goods.

4. A spice rack I found in Cold Spring, NY at one of the best antiques store. I spotted it and walked around the town while thinking about buying it. A HUGE thunderstorm was coming in, causing all shops to shut down because, so I ran in the rain back to the store as they were locking the door. I said, "Wait! Wait! I know exactly what I want! It's a spice rack all the way in the back. Pleeeeease!" They let me back in and I bought it. :) Also in this picture are a few of my vintage aprons, collected over the years from eBay and flea markets.

5. My seltzer bottles and homemade scones.

6. One of my favorite tea towels, perfect for wrapping up muffins as brunch guests await.

7. My vintage yellow Formica kitchen table with handmade Chihuly-photo coasters!

8. I love having fresh flowers in the kitchen, despite budget constraints.

9. I've always loved checkered kitchen floors and now I have one!

Thanks, Alicia, for sharing your kitchen with us.
