We've seen tea towels as curtains before, but never in such a fresh, appealing way as in this Los Angeles apartment.
This modest apartment has plenty of that famous Los Angeles sunshine, and the curtains at the kitchen window let some light in while still screening for privacy. It also is just about the simplest, most modern window treatment we've seen in a while — there's no sewing involved, no bunching or frills. Just a simple modern curtain rod, and two pretty, colorful tea towels. What a great way to show off some of those great tea towels from artists or from Etsy.

Straw Mat from The ...

One of the nicest things about a tea-towel kitchen curtain: mine is over the sink and next to my main work area, so when it (inevitably) gets spattered with coffee or tomato sauce or greasy backsplash from washing a dirty pot, I can whip down the spattered towel, toss it into the laundry, and put up a fresh towel from the drawer. So simple, and it makes such a difference!
It's wonderful! Adding it to my list of DIY projects. I love how it's private and yet it still allows light to come in.
lovely, simple and colourful. too bad my kitchen doesn't have a window...le sigh...
Perfect! I've been trying to find the perfect cafe curtains for my kitchen windows. I recently had to surrender my antique lace curtains with my divorce, and this is perfect. I even have some beautiful Martha Stewart kitchen towels hidden in a drawer that are perfect! Thanks for the inspiration!
I love this look, and I've been gathering vintage embroidered cup towels to hang over my kitchen window (which is exceptionally large).
I've been eyeing exactly those towels for exactly this purpose. Nice to see I wasn't completely out of my mind!
