What challenge have you overcome in your kitchen? When we purchased our condo over four years ago, we had a dimly-lit, bland kitchen area with limited counter space and storage. As part of a full condo renovation, we replaced the cabinets, flooring, lighting, and appliances, and added a peninsula, tiled backsplash, and more lighting. (continued)

What challenge have you overcome in your kitchen? (continued)
We got rid of our microwave dependence and use our range for everything. We also split the refrigeration and freezer into two to allow more space for fresh produce, and have much more counter space. And finally, we have room for cookbooks in the kitchen. We often find ourselves eating at the counter now, rather than moving over to our table!
What's the story of your kitchen?
Our home is a 1200 square foot loft space in a former light bulb/bra factory. It’s an open floor plan, so we wanted to give it more of a defined space and increase the usable kitchen area as we love to cook. We are very inspired by mid-century design and wanted a simple, timeless aesthetic, with some warmth.
What is your favorite meal to cook here?
We love to make big breakfasts on the weekend. We pull out a griddle pan and make pancakes, scrambled eggs, and veggie sausages.

This makeover is fabulous! The working space has been wisely designed and the cabinetry is sleek and sophisticated. Beautiful!!
Love the space and Bumblebee is a great name for a cat!
... do light bulbs and bras go together, or am I missing something? Maybe I don't want to know.
What was the thing over the dishwasher in the before pic?
Hi Lepidoptery - GE opened the factory in 1913, producing miniature Christmas lights. In 1962, the Goddess Bra company took over the building. In 2005, the building was converted into condos, with 217 lofts. So it's not as bad as you think!
In the before pic, my purse was sitting on top of the counter as well as some Flor tiles, but if you're referring to the ceiling above the kitchen, that was our one light!

The before picture reminds me of our loft kitchen, especially the lack of storage and lighting. Thanks for sharing your totally inspirational makeover! I love the final result and it gives me such high hopes for what ours may look like someday.
Looks like a Henrybuilt kitchen, is it?
Lovely!
Yes, it is Henrybuilt. Thanks!

Very nice and good choice of paint color
henrybuilt...drooool
Great creativity
Can't believe this is the same kitchen! You have turned "Blah" into BEAUTIFUL!! Great use of space and the cabinetry is spectacular. Love the idea of the full-size, wood-fronted fridge, but where did you put the freezer section? Great job....love it!
Thank you all for the compliments and votes!
ralsgal - The freezer is separate and in the peninsula. We have mostly fresh produce and very little freezer items, so this was the best option for us.

Who was the henrybuilt installer? One of the hangups other than $ for us to have a kitchen remodel is who would install a henrybuilt/viola park in boston.
Amazake,
Feinmann, who was our GC on the overall remodel, installed the cabinets for us. Andy, their finish carpenter, did an absolutely amazing job, especially scribing the cabinets to our less than square walls.
I believe that Henrybuilt also has a collection of approved installers across the country.

I love Love LOVE this kitchen. I'm curious to know one thing though, if you can tell me. How long is that wall with all your cabinets and appliances. I have a pretty small kitchen too and it is setup incredibly poorly. I have one drawer for all my silverware. ONE! And while the arrangement of my kitchen is entirely different, seeing yours like this gives me ideas and makes me think it would be possible to move a lot of stuff to one side of my kitchen. So if you can, please, I'd be really interested to know the length of that wall, from the cabinet on the left to the fridge on the right.
Again... LOVE IT! :D
mrzer0: thank you!
Our kitchen is 120" in length; our stove and fridge are 30" each. Having storage above has greatly improved our situation as well. Good luck!
You could do some serious entertaining in this gorgeous space. The remodel looks great!
are the backsplash tiles designed by henrybuilt as well? I have an open concept kitchen and my cabinets are about the same color as yours and I have stainless appliances. I was looking for a backsplash that was contemporary and made the space appear longer without clashing. Do you find that the dark tiles enclose the space? What is their material? To me it resembles stainless steel or aluminum.
Scoot - the tiles are by Heath Ceramics. They are ceramic tile and the color is called Gunmetal Gray. It's a dark gray and you can see a hint of metallic to it.
I myself find that the tiles don't enclose the space and help define it a bit, which is what we were aiming for, given that we have an open floor plan with lots of white walls.
Best, Tanya
thank you!
What kind of fridge did you purchase? Is it a northstar?
Hi Anusha73,
The fridge is a Miele...their 30" all-fridge column.
