What would a discussion of ice cream sundaes be without a serious nod to good whipped cream? And while we're all certainly familiar with that basic vanilla-flavored recipe, a whole other world of flavors beckons.
The recipes below represent a nice balance of more traditional (cinnamon, for example) recipes to more innovative ideas like peanut butter whipped cream. Essentially they're all just good starting places for your own kitchen experiments. Just add anything that sounds interesting and see where it takes you! Want a spiked whipped cream? Add a splash of brandy or rum. Want a lavender version? Boil down one tablespoon of lavender with sugar water to make an herbed simple syrup. The ideas are endless, but the inspiration starts here.

Another idea: citrus zest!
I spent one Maine winter hopelessly addicted to hot chocolate with orange zest, topped with clouds of Southern Comfort whipped cream. I definitely want to try some of these variations during strawberry season!
A bit of orange flower water in whipped cream is lovely.
(I then use it between layers of poppyseed cake, or with berries. Honestly, I think it's pretty much the best thing ever!)
Really weird and very tasty: chipotle whipped cream. Add it to sweet potatoes! Yum.
Stealthekitten, that's one of the weirdest things I've ever heard, but I can't wait to try it!
Using honey instead of sugar makes an absolutely delicious and delicately flavored whipped cream. My favorite!
Just put some booze in - cointreau or amaretto, etc...
