A few weeks ago we talked about chairs in the kitchen — we love being able to pull up a hospitable seat for a guest! But some kitchens don't need chairs because they already have more substantial seating built in: Benches and booths! Here's a look at a few examples of built-in kitchen seating in real homes.
TOP ROW
• 1 Robert and Elizabeth's Soulful Sterling Place - Such a lovely bench and table!
• 2 Robert and Elizabeth's Soulful Sterling Place - A view of the whole kitchen.
• 3 Art & Chelsea's Delicious Kitchen Update - We love that red couch just outside Art and Chel's kitchen!
• 4 Ulrika and Mark's Transformed Tudor - A lovely built-in windowseat with a view of the kitchen.
• 5 Julie's Light-Filled Eat-In Corner - A corner booth where Julie's kids can hang out while she cooks.
BOTTOM ROW
• 6 Kyle's Colorful Boston Perch - Kyle's awesome homemade kitchen bench.
• 7 Kyle's Colorful Boston Perch - An up-close of the cushions.
• 8 Kristie's Thirties Tennessee Treasure - An old-fashioned breakfast booth.
• 9 Hunter's First Home: An Exercise in DIY - A great built-in bench.
• 10 Angelique's Sunlit Breakfast Nook - Maybe the best breakfast nook we've ever seen!
I have an eating nook in my kitchen that seriously needs a makeover. These are all inspiring little snippets of ideas! What about you? Do you have a bench or nook in your kitchen?

I remember seeing some bench seating in a kitchen made by putting kitchen cabinets on their side. Does this sound familiar to anyone here? I'm looking for some instruction. Thanks!!!
I remember it too. I'm pretty sure it was an Ikea hack.
So many of those pictures are lovely. Once I own a home, I would love to have a nice soft seat by a window in the kitchen, much like the fourth picture. It'd be a nice place to sit and enjoy some tea during those cooking wait times that are too long to stand around but too short to go far.
@marlee you may actually be thinking of Kyle's kitchen bench (pictured above). In the full home tour she talks about how the bench was made from an IKEA cabinet.
My grandmother had a booth in her kitchen upholstered in avocado green Naugahyde. While the color palette doesn't appeal to me, I've always imagined diner-ish booth seating in my kitchen if I ever own a home. Love it.
We are having a banquette built into our kitchen (hopefully to be installed this week!). I wrote about this on my blog:

Can't wait to post photos of the finished piece!
#3 is not a booth! it is a couch in an open plan space.
