As you've probably noticed, it's Lunch Week at The Kitchn, and so we're talking about lunch (what, where, when, how...). So we're curious: Where do you eat your weekday lunches? At your desk? In a restaurant? At home? In a classroom? Do you brown bag it most days, or do you have the luxury of eating in your own kitchen?
We will have plenty of good resources for those of you who brown bag it every day and tote your lunch to work or school. But we're also curious if some of you eat lunch at home, and if so, what do you eat? Do you feed others (like toddlers) during lunch, or just yourself?
Or do you skip all the cooking and eat out for most of your lunches?

Floral Drink Dispen...

At the desk while I read this, with my tuna sandwich.
Almost always at my desk now :( We used to all eat in a conference room together but that rarely happens now.
Would you please repost the link to the recipe for the picture on the right? That looks delicious!
At my desk behind my cube wall. Normally I'm ok w/ that, but today the rest of the office went for Chinese Buffet (which I can't even physically eat w/out immediate regret) so I am taking bites of my toaster-over grilled cheese in between signing for things from the stream of couriers today (tax time).
I'd love to get myself in a better place w/ my lunches. Excited for the inspiration here this week!
almost always at my desk at work - usually reading a book....when I am with it, I bring my lunch. other days I run down to the deli in our building for a sandwich or salad
I eat lunch at home with my 3 year old every day on break from my work which is also at home. Ah. the beauties of telecommuting.
I'm lucky enough to only live a few blocks away from where I work, so I go home and eat every day and hang out w/my dog :)
When I worked at the office I ate outside as often as possible, and read. Now I work from home and have a tendency to eat at my desk. I should probably make a change there. I eat a lot of salads, occasional leftovers.
@JDS, it's from this post: What's For Lunch Today? Tartine and Potato Salad. There's no recipe for the tartine (just bread, cream cheese, and caramelized onion jam) but the potato salad recipe is here.
At school/work (grad student). We have a tiny office refrigerator, so when I can remember, I bring my lunch. When I'm not so mindful, I end up eating food from the student union, the only safe options in which are salad, sandwich, or bagel. Definitely need to work on packing better/remembering more!
Our office has a break room where I eat my lunch almost every day. Unless that annoying co-worker is in there (at least she eats her lunch at the same time every day so I can usually work around it.) If I have to take lunch at the same time as her, I may just go out to lunch some place quick like a taqueria or at Whole Foods and make my own salad and have soup. I never at at my desk as I have to get away from my desk at lunchtime or it makes me very cranky.
Work normally. My workplace has a very large cafeteria with a lot of very nice options, so I eat there if I forgot to bring a meal. Most days I actually eat leftovers though.
My desk. I just move my work out of the way and eat. It's not that healthy, I know. Maybe once a week I'll leave the office and go for a walk, but it's too expensive to eat lunch out very often.
I used to bring my lunch every day to save money but I would eat outside of my work area.
I'm lucky enough to have an employer now that provides all lunches for free. I alternate between bringing it back to my desk and eating with friends (the point of the food is to encourage interaction at the office). It has presented new challenges in controlling lunch portions and eating sensibly, but I've gotten the hang of it.
I usually eat lunch at my desk at work, usually while I'm working. Then I take my lunch hour and use it to do other things (mall, shopping, read a book, etc.)
I used to work at an office where most of us would eat together in our conference room. That was nice as we have an unspoken rule that we don't talk work during that time, but if an emergency arises, you know where people are.
Now... I have to get out of the office but I don't really want to spend my lunch hour actually eating lunch. I'd rather go window browsing! LOL
I'm looking forward to being able to eat my lunch outside...but it'll be at least two more months of desk lunches while reading AT, the NYTimes and other online fun.
At work, although I work from home 2 days a week. Didn't know how to count that.
I take my snack breaks mostly at the computer, I work at home and often outside on renovation projects. Some days doing computer work. Spouse and I go out for lunch for special treats, cheaper than dinner out.
Home, because my workday starts at 1. It is nice because my dog gets to hang out in the sunshine on the porch until then.
We have quite a nice breakroom at work, so I usually end up there, and I'm the only one on lunch at that time, so it's a solitary meal. When it's nice out (like today!), I walk two blocks up to the park and try to find a free bench.
I work in a beautiful building with a large great room / common room, so I bring my lunch (leftovers, random things I grabbed and brought, or a sandwich from a nearby shop) down there to read at lunch. When it is nice outside, the tables on the outdoor plaza are really nice, but you have to snag a good one early! I can't eat at my desk, too tempted to keep working, when what I really need is a BREAK!
I usually scarf it down at my desk at work, then use my lunch hour for errands. Not too crazy about the rushing involved, but I can stand going to the grocery store at 5:00 p.m.
There's a dining hall at my work, giving fix menus for each employee. Although they're way too calorie-rich, I eat there as I'm lazy to prepare my own at home.
I'm really lucky to work so close to home that it would be silly to take the time to pack a lunch or go out to a restaurant; I always, always go home. It's so nice to be able to decide at lunchtime what I want, eat it on the couch, catch up with Jon Stewart and pet my cat.
I work close to home, so I go home and eat with my pup. When he was still crate trained, it was necessary so he wouldn't be in his crate all day. Now that he's out and about, it's necessary so that I won't be in my crate all day.
LOL@Priscatip.
I eat in our beautifully appointed breakroom each day. Sometimes it takes me the entire hour to eat my lunch. I get a stream of people who stop and chat...it's very nice.
BF and I both work close to home so we eat lunch at home together. I love it.
