Who doesn't know yet about Julie & Julia, a movie that combines two best selling books about food into one very well-publicized film? The books (Julie & Julia and My Life in France) have been reissued with cover shots from the film. Interviews, contests, and special apps are popping up everywhere. Is a commemorative set of bakeware just around the corner? Normally, I would roll my eyes at such overkill and stay at home. But not this time. I'm still planning on seeing Julie & Julia, probably on the day it premieres. You can call me a geek but please, don't call me a foodie.

I can't wait. Julia Child was a fascinating woman, so I'm looking forward to the creative movie treatment of her life. And I'm totally jealous of Julie Powell for such a brilliant idea.

I'll go see it because I'm a big fan of Julia Child and Meryl Streep, but I'm not expecting much.
I'm conflicted. I'd love to see a movie about Julia Child, but I'm not sure I'd be interested in Julie Powell. Everything I've heard about her book makes her sound like the kind of person I wouldn't want to spend 10 minutes with let alone watch a 60 minute movie on.
That said, I haven't actually read her book and am willing to give the movie the benefit of the doubt. I already have it saved on netflix.
Enjoyed the book Julie & Julia, love Julia Child, love Nora Ephron, love Meryl Streep, love Amy Adams. Yeah, I'll be seeing it.
I really love JC and enjoyed the Julie/Julia book. And as Mrs Catbird said, I love everyone involved. However, I think that Amy Adams was miscast as Julie is much more biting and acerbic (and curses--please read these as good/funny/interesting/real things not criticisms) and it looks like she doesn't come through in this character which is disappointing. I can think of so many others who could have played Julie.

I'm really looking forward to it -- I think it was a brilliant twist to combine the two books into one movie, and I can't imagine anyone else in Hollywood pulling off Julia Child except Meryl Streep. Plus Norah Ephron is hilarious.
Really enjoyed the book. Love Meryl Streep. Looking forward to the movie. It looks like it's going to be fun and entertaining, and for me, that is the point of the movies.
I got lucky and saw an advance screening - overall it was a real delight but I could have done with less Julie and more Julia!
I think BetsyGinDC is right - Amy Adams as Julie Powell doesn't deliver any punch.

The book was hilarious! I think the movie will be very different (more about JC, less cursing), but I think it will still be great. Meryl Streep makes everything better.

I always thought that one of the great things about the blog was the wonderful interaction because Julie, her husband, and crazy ragtag lifestyle/friends. Once I heard they got divorced I really lost interest in how it played out in a book or movie. The romance was gone...
