We saw Stephanie and Eric at our coffee place over the weekend and we couldn't stop staring at their cake.
We don't usually have the guts to stop strangers on the street and ask them: "What's cookin'?" But this time, we couldn't help ourselves.
We've been humming Beach Boys songs and thinking about other ways to create summer-y cakes since we saw this . . .
Stephanie and Eric told us they picked up the tiny wind surfers, palm trees and umbrellas from New York Cake Supplies. When one of the plastic surfers broke off his board, they decided to just sink him in the cake for a blue icing swim.
They created the cake for a fundraiser for the Churchill School in downtown Manhattan. Stephanie said she used her cousin Robin's Golden Butter cake recipe.
Who's up for helping us create a summer baking slide show? How about a strawberry and blueberry flag cake? Lemons, baseballs, watermelon sailboats, an ice cream cake . . . Send pictures of your summer themed desserts to chrisATapartmenttherapyD0Tcom.
