It was a blustery afternoon in London yesterday, but a vision of another kind of summer was chalked onto a blackboard on the Kensington Church Street sidewalk outside Lea & Sandeman
, one of London's best independent wine shops...It can be intimidating to shop for wine while traveling. Paris wine merchants are incredibly generous and will talk at length about a given wine to go with your meal, but only when asked. In London, you don't even have to talk to anybody to get a little story about the wine you are thinking about taking home. Tucked into the shelves you can often find miniature versions of this billboard painting an impressionistic picture of what's in the bottle. There's a lightheartedness to the proceedings that make wine-shopping fun. Even if that bottle of rosé wasn't going to do a damn thing about the temperamental English summer weather.
