Another hotly anticipated launch at the Home + Housewares show this weekend was the latest cast iron cookware color from Staub. Le Creuset may have gone to the French seaside for the new Marseille, but Staub went to the country with Saffron, a dark golden hue, which calls to mind images of "marigolds, fall foliage, and spice," as their description puts it.
Personally, I love this color, and I think it's even more striking against the black matte enamel interior (there's no photo unfortunately). The collection will be available in November 2012, and includes Mini, Round, and Oval Cocottes, as well as the 10" Square Grill Pans, the 12" Fry Pan, the Shallow Round and Oval Ovens, and the 4.25 and 5.75 quart Coq Au Vin.

Monterey Pitcher fr...

I'm sorry, but that looks just like the old Harvest Gold color which was around in the late '50's, early '60's. I didn't much care for it then, either.
Can someone tell me why on earth anyone would ever pay those prices? Rich people are crazy.
Not so fond of either color on their own, but together they're totally Provençal!
I'm definitely not rich, and the 6.5qt cocotte I have was a huge splurge. But it was so worth it. It's my favourite pot, and I use it all the time. Browns completely evenly, cooks low and slow or hot and fast without hotspots. Cleans up really well. And is gorgeous on my stovetop. I have absolutely no regrets, and I'd love to expand my collection. But alas, it's not time for another splurge as yet. I highly recommend a Staub enameled cocotte.
Mmm I think I prefer the Marseille Le Creuset color. Can't speak for performance though, since I've never tried Staub. I'm afraid to ask, since I am sure there's already a Chowhound thread out there on this topic.
I have 2 Staub dutch ovens and I love them. I use them both all the time. I love this color. Saffron is such a wonderful spice and imparts such a beautiful color to dishes it's used in. Don't get why people aren't liking this color.
can't wait for next year when they debut Avocado.
I'm sure you're being sarcastic, screamadonna, but avocado would probably do really well-- some of us who missed the 70s the first time around (and some who were there, for that matter) dream of avocado refrigerators and fight each other for stray harvest gold dishes at Goodwill. This has me considering buying a dutch oven (especially with the black enamel interior? Swoon).
Le Creuset already has an avocado color out. It's exclusive to Crate & Barrel. I forget what's it's called but it's not terribly attractive. It's an olivey green that shades to a blackish green. I can see the saffron and that avocado sitting on a reddish copper range - but NOT in my house....LOL!
