For many of us, celebrations mean an extra special meal cooked at home. Even an ordinary day feels special with a bowl of ice cream, preferably homemade.
But what about the dishes you use to eat and share these special meals and treats? Do they (literally) say anything about you?
We celebrated many a childhood birthday eating our favorite dishes off of a bright red plate that proclaimed, "You are special today." We found this really exciting as a kid and a little embarrassing as a teenager (there may have been a few eye rolls), but these days we'd be happy to break it out for a meal or two. Because really, who doesn't want to feel special for a day?
Whether it's a unique plate or a personalized dish for your favorite treat, do you have any dishes that make your home cooking extra special?

PLEA to site editors:
If you're going to switch to only displaying two lines of text in the RSS feed (i.e. this morning), it would be a huge help to those of us who would like to view more than one at a time to offer some way to SCROLL between posts. Nowhere on this page am I able to view the previous or next posts. If I need to click on every single link in my RSS feed in order to take a peek at each posting, I am going to lose patience very quickly and likely read none. I really hope you give this some thought.
Thanks.
My boyfriend grew up with that very plate and said, "Don't you have one? Why don't you have one?" I guess everyone is supposed to.
We had the "You Are Special Today" plate growing up too! It was what we ate our dinners off of on our birthdays.
We didn't have plates, but everyone in the family has their own special mugs. Good for hot chocolate, ice cream, or soup.
Ha! I just re-read my post... I don't mean that we didn't have plates at all, I mean we didn't have the "You Are Special Today" plates...
i had the "you are special today" plate too! it was reserved special days- birthdays, being a good kid, looking extra cute! i was so excited to see it on here...oh the memories!
I got one of those for our wedding. :)
