Small Cool, Apartment Therapy's annual celebration of small living spaces, is well underway this month. We've been so impressed by many of the kitchens in this year's contest, and we're about to give you a look at some of our favorites. But first — an even more interesting announcement! Next month, May 2010, The Kitchn will be celebrating small(ish) kitchens for a whole month, with a small kitchen contest of our own! Floral Drink Dispen...

Ahhh I just remodeled our kitchen - I wish there had been a Small Cool Kitchens 2009 I could have used as a resource! I can't wait to see what people enter :)
@sagekitten85 - well we hope you enter then! And inspire lots of other remodelers yourself! :-)
We are upping the allowed square footage quite a lot this year, by the way, to allow for more open kitchen plans and a more diverse array of entries. Even very small homes sometimes have relatively large kitchens, compared to their overall square footage.
Lovely -- although having a small kitchen of my own I would kill for even a fraction of the space some of these have. Regardless, this post gave me some ideas of how to better deal with what I have.
I would probably enter if we had our floor done :) Right now it is concrete with black vinyl adhesive all over it from removing the old tiles.
Is this contest going to be divided into categories by square footage the same way as Small Cool?
Some of those "small" kitchens look bigger than my old studio apartment.
@sagekitten85 - no. This is the first time in a long time we're doing this contest, so it's just a first run. We don't know how the entries are going to shake out yet, so they will just be placed in two major categories: Rent & Own.
Hopefully at least entries will list their kitchen square footage / rough floor plan. There are always so many comments like DCarl1 above about the sizes of kitchens featured here, and I would think that would be a big issue during a contest. It is easier to impress with a 12' square kitchen than a 6' square kitchen.
I'm looking forward to seeing this. Not sure about entering but will wait a bit and see how the contest goes. The entries above are very nice. My favorites tend towards the more eclectic ones.
This kitchen should be included in those featured in this post. http://www.apartmenttherapy.com/dc/small-cool-2010/small-cool-2010-christophers-retro-rowhouse-small-division-27-114946?image_id=0
This is probably the third or fourth comment of this nature I've made on this site, but...haha, these are *small* kitchens? Right.
@syrupandhoney, no, these kitchens are from SMALL COOL HOMES 2010, so they are kitchens from homes of various sizes. All of the homes are under 1000 square feet, but there is no constraint on the kitchen.
We were simply spotlighting kitchens from Small Cool Homes 2010; the small cool kitchens contest will start here next month.
yay!!! i wanted to enter the homes division but i have a 1004 sq ft apartment. boo! but of those 1004 sq ft, my kitchen DEFINITELY doesn't take up much! i can't wait!
Awww, I didn't realize my kitchen was going to get so much love. :-)
My kitchen is maybe a little bigger than it looks. It's only 55sqft or so. The stove is only 20in wide. I don't do too much cooking, but do bake a few times a month. I can still make a batch of cookies or a cake without too much trouble.
