Looking for an easy, reusable solution to labeling foods before you freeze them? Try a dry erase crayon! It's a cheap and washable way to label lids.

Ginny from the blog Organizing Homelife has been freezing leftover foods in glass Pyrex containers for years, but she'd never found an easy way to label the containers that would a) survive the dishwasher, b) wouldn't require peeling off a sticky label.
The epiphany came when she realized Pyrex covers have a texture similar to chalkboard. Ginny initially went looking for chalk markers (which she's convinced will still work), but settled on a cheaper $3 option: dry erase crayons! They don't smudge or fade, but they'll wash off easily with a wet paper towel. Perfect!

Red-and-Pink-Stripe...

So are sharpies when you use glass containers.
I use sharpie pens on my plastic lids and the ink comes off with a quick soapy scrub. Don't know if that's the case for all plastic lids, but I never mind if there's a bit of faded writing left on the lid (just write over it!)
What a great idea! We have a gazillion pyrex that we use. I wonder if regular chalk would work too?
Masking tape. Even makes it through the dishwasher (by mistake, obviously).
