What's cuter than a full-size layer cake and more festive than a cupcake? A mini layer cake! Jordan from Oh Happy Day has a tutorial for making these adorable cakes, which are baked in repurposed tin cans.
Clean tin cans are simply greased, floured and used in place of the usual cake pan. These particular cakes took about 25 minutes to bake, then were cut into four layers and frosted. Tiny cakes like this look much easier to handle than the usual 9-inch layers, yet are nearly as impressive.
We can imagine making one for a special someone on her birthday or an assortment for a party or shower. Either way, these cute little cakes are hard to resist.

Cute, but I hope the cans are not lined with BPA.
Way to rain on the parade RAE1
I immediately wondered the same thing RAE1 said. But if you're someone that's concerned about that you probably by BPA free cans to start with.
My Mom used to make pumpkin bread in cans when I was a kid. Of course they were unlined cans but I imagine you have to specify to stay away from the ones with the plasticy lining.
Psst . . . little error in the text: they were cut into 4 layers, not 3.
Are they still tin? I thought they were all steel by now.
Also BPA, as stated above.
Would a layer of tinfoil work to counteract bpa leaching into the food? I can't seem to find BPA free tin cans and I would love to try this!
If you don't have or don't want to use cans, you can get the same effect with a round cutter. Just bake any shape cake you want, split to the desired height, then just use a biscuit cutter to make rounds. As a bonus, the chef gets to eat the scraps! I've done this with an extra cake layer to make a super cute little cake that feeds a couple of people.
I immediately thought of bpa too.
I suppose you could use Eden cans...
I have heard that Trader Joe's sells some canned goods w/o BPA lining. I use very few things from cans. It isn't raining on anyone's parade to mention BPA. A lot of people may not think of it, and even the original cook may not have considered the concerns. Her idea is nice, and it can be tweaked by using BPA-free cans.
