A decent size trash bin in the kitchen is an absolute must. The kitchen is where I spend the majority of my time and accumulate the most trash. I'd much rather have a large and sturdy bin than a little bin under the sink. I've spent quite a few dollars on previous cans that I still have around the house, but I think I found one that gives the current market leaders a run for their money.
What really attracts me to this kitchen bin from Vipp is the sleek and sophisticated look. It's a traditional waste bin look and that's exactly what makes it so attractive. The Vipp bins are made from fine quality steel and rubber and come in three colors: white, black and silver. I love the matte finish of the black, the traditional look of the white and modern look of the silver.
The lid has a built in damper mechanism to avoid it from slamming shut. The large bin has a capacity of 30L but comes in 4, 8, 14 and 18 liters as well. The price is certainly steep but think of how long you would have this kitchen bin. I definitely couldn't imagine getting rid of it any time soon.

yoinks! They're beautiful, but I just can't justify that price. What if someone (aka, me) dinged it?!
pretty sure they come in a range of wonderful colors
My trash ain't worth that much cash!
You know what's really unattractive? A nearly $500 bin you throw trash in. Possibly the most ridiculous thing I've ever seen.
Most popular color is ripoff red, I'm sure.
Wow... Even if it cleaned its self and took its self out... I can't afford that price tag. :(
Totally overpriced!
I cannot say enough about how great the Vipp is AND the company is fabulous also. I got a tall trash can in orange for a present years ago (yes, it was what I wanted), and it is beautiful, sturdy, and looks great in the kitchen. At one point the handle on the inner bin lost a rivet holding it on and so I emailed them to get a replacement or repair.
The president of the company emailed back immediately to say they would send a replacement free and all I had to do was tell him what style it was. While some may think it crazy to pay 400+ for a trash bin, it's something I use everyday and I would equate it with buying anything I use that often - a good refrigerator, down pillows, a nice lamp, etc.
Gorgeous - but I find a larger bin leads to rotten food waste stank in my house, from peelings, ends, etc. I need a small bin with a small bag that I take out every (or every other) day and put down my (similarly small NYC apartment building) trash chute. A bigger bin bag wouldn't fit in the chute, even.
Yeah, sorry to be a killjoy but this price tag is ridiculous! It isn't even motion activated! What could possibly justify that price?!
Ridiculous. I recommend Simple Human cans--I never regretted spending $100 for one, because it is fantastic. But $400 is not even remotely realistic.
