Yesterday we linked to an article on yet another favorite item that Trader Joe's is discontinuing. TJ's, we love you, but sometimes you push us just a little too far.
There's only one thing to do in times like these: click on the TJ's Song and sing along.
This sweet little song captures everything we love and don't love about Trader Joe's, including the distinctive ding-ding of the brass bell. (Does anyone know what that means?)
Favorite products come and go, quirky things remain. Despite all this, Trader Joe's is still a favorite destination. It's one of the few places where we can be a little spontaneous and not break the bank, and there's usually a few fun discoveries in the What's New section.
These days, that's entertainment our pocketbook can afford.

The bells are for customer service up front. The number of rings signifies the type of service they need.
I only know that from going to TJs WAY too much :)
Awesome.
According to the TJ's Fearless Flyer that just happens to be in front of me ...
"One bell - Let's open a new register
Two bells - There are questions to be answered
Three bells - Captain's help is needed"
Umm, I got slightly weepy reading this. Seriously, my eyes are a bit watery. It might be partly because I miss their dried rhubarb (haven't seen it there in a couple of years, presumably discontinued). But it might also be because I really miss Trader Joe's (haven't been there in a long time). This reminded me how happy it always made me to go there. You know how some women can be made instantly happy by going clothes shopping? That's what's it's like when I go to a happy food store like Trader Joe's.
I LOVE TJ's, and most of this hilarious song - good and bad - is, admittedly, true. Except the paper bag handle claim - they're the sturdiest I've ever encountered, and we're fairly guilty to admit that we don't bring our own bags to TJ's on purpose - so we can bring home a couple of theirs! They hold EVERYTHING (and we reuse ours for toting, recycling, bringing in firewood, etc)! Great video.
King Arthur has a good catalog and you can mail order their flour there. It's the basic flour of choice in New England and can be had in any grocery store here. I didn't even realize TJs carries it (I just get it at Stop & Shop).
