We had planned to write a post about the rising cost of food,
or something equally serious. But any pretensions of gravity flew out the window as soon as we saw this cake, attached to the magic words: Hazelnut. Brown. Butter. Cake.Deb from Smitten Kitchen
made this show-stopping dessert based on a recipe from the well-loved cookbook Sunday Suppers at Lucques
by Suzanne Goin. It's hardly surprising that this cake is a winner -- food bloggers continually fall all over themselves
describing the success of dinner-party worthy dishes from this book. But Deb had the genius idea of draping the cake with a shiny rich chocolate ganache.
Instead of intelligent dialogue about politicians looking to the oil when they should be looking to the wheat, our minds can only daydream about further gilding the lily. We plan to serve this cake with the ganache and Suzanne Goin's original garnish of poached pears. Now that's a serious post.
