We'll admit, a trip to Macy's in Herald Square in New York during the holiday season is not something we'd wish on our worst enemy. It's madness down there. However... Macy's Cellar is a one-stop shop for housewares if you need to kill a lot of birds with one errand. And, as a salesperson once told us, "Stuff here is always on sale."Also, given the fact that Macy's is a national store, and many of you have access to a Cellar, we thought it would be a good idea to take a look at some of the stuff they sell. Our favorite items are usually the small appliances—toasters
, food processors
—because Macy's has a wide selection, which makes it easier to comparison shop.
We also love the Martha Stewart Collection. We can't speak for every Macy's, but Martha's stuff is usually displayed well, and she has some good deals. For example, the enamel-coated dutch ovens (Le Creuset lookalikes) were discounted on our recent trip. The pans, pictured above, were about $10-$15 each, including the new green (as in non-toxic) pan.
This selection of simple white tableware was great—versatile, inexpensive, and perfect if you need some extra serving dishes or accessories for the holidays.
As we said before, this store likes a sale. A lot of times you need a Macy's card to get the savings, or you have to mail in a rebate, but a little legwork pays off. For example, KitchenAid mixers
in every color of the rainbow for $299 (regularly $399).
And while Macy's sells all the high-end cookware like All-Clad and Calphalon, there's also the line of Back to Basics goods. Right now, for obvious reasons, they're really pushing the roasting pan
We saw huge towers of boxes just like the ones above, for everything from pots to Pyrex collections. You sometimes have to search a little bit harder to find individual pieces (like knives or pans), but they're there! Just keep your head down and stay focused. And try to shop on a weekday.
Do you shop for housewares at Macy's? What the best deal you've gotten?
