I have a question for everyone out there: I hesitate to use products that aren't natural when cooking at high temperatures, and I try to stick to glass, metal, wood, bamboo, etc. as much as possible in the kitchen, generally. I know these types of spatulas and other equipment, storage containers, etc. are convenient and work well but isn't there a health concern? I'm just wondering what others think.
In general I agree, Jasmine, but I'm willing to make exceptions. I have a silicone spatula that looks a lot like this one. Since spatulas are meant to be bendy and the materials you mentioned won't really do the trick I have no problem making a exception there, especially since it doesn't actually get to high heat very often. Mostly I use it for scraping the bowl when baking. I use wooden spoons for sauteing and stir-frying on the stovetop. Just my two cents!
Jasmine, I agree as well. I'm apprehensive about baking in silicone. However, since I only use spatulas for moments at a time (i.e., only takes seconds to scrape down a bowl or get the last of the almond butter out of a jar) ... I make an exception as well.
Glad to see another version of a one-piece spatula. I love my one-piece, two-ended spatulas (one small end & one larger end). Two-piece spatulas with wooden handles eventually come apart or mold appears where the handle attaches in the rubber.
