When Erin (of lifestyle blog Apartment 34) and her husband walked into the San Francisco loft apartment they would eventually call home, the kitchen was the standout feature. It's not hard to understand why when you consider the marble countertops, deep drawers, Viking range, plenty of natural light, and open shelving. But the shelves have an interesting detail about them:
Erin and her husband use them to display a few of their favorite objects, but in a very equitable way: one shelf belongs to Erin, while the other belongs to her husband. In a room that often gets territorial, as home cooks well know, this is a subtle way to share the space. (And keep the peace!)

I am thinking that the towel is hanging on a dishwasher? Where is the refrigerator? This is a really neat kitchen, but would like to see more. Will check blog?
Have used open shelves in my 30's kitchen as a "temporary" fix until I can afford cabinets. They really work! Easy access and really easy to clean.
