The toddy project continues with two delicious combinations of tea and booze - whiskey and black tea to perk you up, and chamomile and bourbon to send you off to sleep.
The Whiskey Tea Toddy
serves 1
1 teaspoon honey
5 whole cloves
1 cinnamon stick
1 whole anise star
1 1/2 oz rye whiskey
1/2 cup (or more, to taste) already-brewed hot tea (I used English Breakfast)
Slice of lemon
Add honey and spices to the bottom of a heat-proof snifter or mug. Add the whiskey and pour in the tea. Squeeze the lemon, drop it in, and stir until the honey is melted.
Friday: Chamomile Bourbon Hot Toddy
For Friday's hot toddy, I was inspired by this recipe from Jacob Grier. I was intrigued by the combination of bourbon and chamomile, but at a bit of a loss as to how to get my hands on some chamomile liqueur. The solution? Chamomile tea. The bourbon and the floral flavors here complement one another beautifully. Perfect for a nightcap - chamomile has been used as a sleep aid for centuries, and if that doesn't do the trick, the little bit of bourbon should knock you right out.
Chamomile Bourbon Hot Toddy
serves 1
1 teaspoon honey
1 1/2 ounce bourbon
1/2 cup already-brewed chamomile tea
1 slice meyer lemon
dash lavender bitters
Add the honey and bourbon to a heat-proof snifter or mug. Top with the tea, squeeze the lemon, and drop it in. Add the lavender bitters and stir until the honey is melted.
Coming up! Stay tuned for part 3: gin toddy, and a vanilla whiskey toddy.
