We always see heated servers for hot dishes, from plug-in electrical devices to votive-heated warming trays. But what about serving up chilled dishes on something cold during a hot-weather party? Here's an idea:
Chill marble slabs in the refrigerator prior to serving. This can be done for veggies, cheeses, fruits, desserts, drinks. It'll keep cold things even colder, will look great, and will inject a little extra relief from the heat. Shown here is a discontinued marble serving slab from CB2, but you could do this with any marble or stone cutting board, serving platter, or even 12x12-inch tile.

Great idea! But instead I think I might chill a marble slab and just lay down on it. Sounds pretty nice on these 98+ days ...
Some friends recently had us over for dinner right in the middle of a heatwave, and they served the cheese course on a chilled round slab of marble (cheese was directly on the marble itself, not on a plate). It kept the cheese from turning into a puddle while we ate on the deck, I thought it was a great idea!
