When it comes to spreading jam and jelly on sandwiches, a classic PB&J is just the beginning. For instance, have you ever tried grilled cheese with strawberry jam or other preserves? Read on for some more savory ideas…
• Grilled cheese: Adding jam or jelly to grilled cheese is not as strange as it might sound. Think of cheese plates, where sweet, tangy fruit and savory, creamy cheese are perfect complements to one another. We love cheddar cheese with strawberry jam, plum jam, or cherry chutney.
• Turkey sandwich: Marisa McClellan of Food in Jars likes spreading apricot preserves on turkey sandwiches. "It makes me feel like I'm eating lunch at a gourmet cafe instead of at my dining room table," she writes.
• Goat cheese tartine: Citrus marmalade, pomegranate jelly, fig jam ... all of these work beautifully with creamy chèvre cheese.
• Croque monsieur: We've seen versions of this French hot ham and cheese sandwich with a light spread of raspberry jam, elderberry, and even grape jelly.

Cheese and jam really do go well together. I strongly agree with the goat cheese and jam tartine, so good!
how about grilled cheese and hot pepper jelly? :)
The Hopleaf bar in Chicago serves what they call a "CB&J" - cashew butter, fig jam, and raclette cheese. It is to die for!
i like goat cheese with some fresh tomatoes & curry olive oil.... http://7th-taste.com/2012/08/09/curried-bruschetta-with-goat-cheese-heirloom-tomatoes/
I am now wanting a piece of toast with raspberry jam and extra old white cheddar. Love that combo.
Cranberry sauce on the after-Thanksgiving turkey sandwich!
YES. I have a jar of cherry jalapeno tequila jam that I slather on pretty much any sandwich. I don't know what I will do when I run out (found it in door county, wi).
I also make an awesome grilled sandwich with turkey, gouda, and green apple slices. I mix cranberry or lingonberry sauce with some good stone ground mustard to taste and apply liberally.
Old cheddar, carmelized onion, and apple slices - grilled on grainy bread. So good
@Bella753 Ohhh that sounds divine! One of my favorite combos. There was a time I used to make caramelized onions regularly, and once I discovered I didn't have enough onions but did have a green apple in the fridge, so I caramelized the sliced apple along with the onions. Hmmmm!!!
"Marisa McClellan of Food in Jars likes spreading apricot preserves on turkey sandwiches" --> I like orange marmalade on turkey, myself. Oh, and fig preserves go super well with turkey too, and goat cheese.
The Classic Monte Cristo, my favorite, has either raspberry or strawberry preserves in the recipe. I have used many different kinds of jams with excellent results.
How about burgers with jam on them? Like a seedless blackberry jam a nice cheddar, jalapeños, bacon, avocado and a fried egg? Yummm. (Not the healthiest, but a nice treat during the summer every once in a while.)
I love a good grilled cheese and jam, but for a flashback to grade school, it has to be cream cheese and jam.
