Look! A kitchen, and a rental kitchen at that, won first place in the International division of our Room for Color contest! We were very excited to see such a vibrant kitchen in the first place spot.
Heather says that she built the color palette for her little kitchen around a paper parasol that she loves. She says:
"I've been carrying this beautiful vintage paper parasol from apartment to apartment because I love the colour - a beautiful coral, especially when the light shines through it. I hung it in my kitchen to hide some gnarly junction boxes and slowly built my palette around it - bright and creamy coral, warm white, soft sage, pops of citrus."
We just love the warmth and brightness of this little kitchen. It's a wonderful color for Montreal, Canada, which is quite dark through much of the winter. This seems like such a cheery, practical space, and we're quite happy that a kitchen got voted into one of the top spots in this year's contest. Congratulations Heather!

Floral Drink Dispen...

This is the one entry I know I voted for consistently. Others really depended on the competition they were up against but this beat all the others hands down in my opinion.
love love love
That kitchen is truly adorable. I love the coral; it's so inviting.
Oh I am so glad this lovely kitchen won - it just makes sense that a kitchen, the heart of the home, should win the color contest!!! Well done to you!!!
I love it! The pictures were definitely taken on the right days, at the right time. The sunlight is beautiful and the room is so inviting.
Woo hoo! Congratulations! This one was my favorite, too.
She put a lot of heart, personality, and detail into this rental kitchen! I found it very inspiring! No gutting, just working with what you have!
What a cozy, little, rental kitchen. I want to brew a coffee and sit reading a magazine, while being bathed in light at the kitchen table.
The color is great, it reminds me of spring! I also love the open shelving instead of cabinets.
Oh, your comments warm the cockles of my heart. This really is the most magical kitchen I've ever had the pleasure to cook in. During the day (when its warm out at least) I open the windows and doors and happily chop things on my old work table I pulled from the garbage and cleaned up. And at night, it just glows and makes me feel so happy and warm, especially when I have company over and its snowy and bitterly cold outside. I really need to find a stool so I can perch in here in the morning instead of eating my oatmeal on the couch....
