We get a lot of questions about two things that tend to take up excess room in the kitchen: storage canisters and dish racks. We've explored dish racks with small footprints, but here's one that looks even better, along with some really intriguing stacking canisters — all from smart design firm Urban Kitchen.
The dish rack is very compact; it fits only a couple of place settings. Sure, this isn't practical for big dinner parties, but for small urban kitchens with just one or two occupants? Very helpful. We also like the attached rubber mat that springs out from under the drying rack, and that snaps back into the base when you're done with it. It's easier to just put a glass down on a rubber mat than fit it into a big dish drainer.

We love these canisters, too; they are ceramic, which we like much more than plastic. They also have sliding pour spouts in the lids.

We strugged deciding on a dish rack - Collapsible? Hanging? We finally decided "hey, we barely ever get an opportunity to put it away so why not get one that looks nice?" We purchased the SimpleHuman stainless steel rack & it's FANTASTIC. Love it. Sure, it sits on our counter 24/7 but there's a neverending flow of sippy cups, dishes and coffee thermoses... so at least it looks great while it's eating up my countertop space!
