It's not every day you get to peek into a rock star's home kitchen — and it's not often you find a rock star like Neko Case, who lives in a 1787 farmhouse in Vermont, and who not only loves her homey kitchen, but keeps a piano there and composes much of her music right in the middle of the kitchen. Read on for a picture of her whole kitchen...
Neko Case (if you don't know her already!) is a fabulous singer whose music falls somewhere, as Country Living says, between alt-country and punk-folk. She's a favorite around here, so it was really delightful to see her homey, warm kitchen — full of eclectic finds and clearly very lived-in. She's on the road as much as 10 months out of the year, but Case still finds time to write songs right in her kitchen.

She also has a pretty fabulous garden, out in the country — you can see more photos of this and the rest of her farmhouse home on Country Living's website and in the magazine:

As a piano player, I LOVE that the piano is in the kitchen. The only downside- I'd NEVER get anything done! I sit down at mine and have to be peeled away from it. I love playing the piano! However, as mentioned in the CL article, I suppose if it is out in the open for people, they will play it then. However, this makes an excellent dream for me some day!
As huge as that kitchen is, it is probably the ENTIRE original 1787 structure! Wow.
My friend's boyfriend did these renovations! So cool to see it on TheKitchn.
Love her, and love Vermont! She's now living in the town where I grew up :-)
I love the gorgeous kitchen, and I'm sure music will sound better for having been composed there.
AWESOME! I love Neko Case!
The farm looks awesome. My odd Neko Case story is that a few years ago, before I knew who she was and when I used to dye my hair red, I had a guy walk up to me in a bar and tell me that I looked just like Neko Case and what the heck was I doing with "that guy" pointing at my boyfriend. Well 5 years and two kids Iater I'm still with "that guy" and still don't see a resemblance but I would love to have that farmhouse.
@trishdom it's not like she's going to record an album on this particular piano. i'm guessing it's for when inspiration strikes, so it's not necessary for the tuning to be precise.
but yeah, i wouldn't put my best piano in the kitchen. i don't think she needs to worry about that as she also collects "stray" pianos and holds them in her barn ... http://www.nytimes.com/2009/02/15/magazine/15neko-t.html
LOVE her..and am totally digging this kitchen!!!
