Red, White, and Adorable: Two Candy Cane Cookies

Red, White, and Adorable: Two Candy Cane Cookies

Cookies that look cute aren't always the best tasting. And we'll concede that these candy cane cookies might not make us swoon as much as, oh, say, something along these lines. However, we'll occasionally cop to being shallow and concentrating solely on appearances, especially this time of year.

Enter these red and white striped candy cane cookies, which we think are awesome. The first is a throwback—a twisted sugar dough cookie that we often see made into a tree ornament. The other, a rolled wafer cookie that reminds us of those pirouettes from Pepperidge Farm.

Clearly one takes a steadier hand than the other. (If you're baking with kids, might we suggest the first?) But either would be a fun, festive option for the coming weeks.

Here are the recipes:

Candy Stripe Cookie Sticks, from Martha Stewart

A tip: If you do want to make these simply to hang on the tree (rather than to eat), you can buy a roll of refrigerated sugar cookie dough and dye half of it.
