We grew up with our mother always having a spoon rest on the stove. We were always fascinated with how useful they are, but always underwhelmed by how cheesy they can be.
Now that we're older and have our own kitchen, we realize that there has to be a spoon rest out there that we like. The first place we thought to visit on our spoon rest quest was Etsy. We were pretty amazed to find that there are artists selling recycled bottle spoon rests &mdash an idea we had never even thought of!
We picked four of our favorite recycled bottle spoon rests and we're even thinking about shipping one to our mother. Our personal favorite is the Beer Bottle Spoon Rest from ShifflettStudios. We're pretty amazed that the prices range from $10 to $35 (for a set of two).
It's too bad we don't own a kiln, or we could make these at home!

I never thought about checking etsy for these. My spoon rest broke a couple of years ago and I never found one that "spoke" to me enough to replace the old one with. Thanks!
My spoon rest is an asparagus plate! At least that's what I assume it is because it has asparagus (asparagi?), printed on the bottom of the dish. It's perfectly shallow and just long enough, and it rinses clean very easily.
Love these.
The blue one's my favorite
We have a horrible one made out of a grey goose vodka bottle. It is soooooooo tacky, but it was a gift. These plain bottle ones aren't so bad, though.
I've seen these for years, but a friend that has one has always used it as a cheese board/plate.
These are pretty, but I've come to love our upright spoon rest because it takes up less space.
we used a recycled bottle spoon rest until it cracked in half from the heat of the stovetop. i loved the way it looked, but am afraid to get another in case it happens again.
i grew up with my mom having a set on the stove- and now i have my own kitchen and there so many times i wonder why i don't have these useful little things.
i tend to stick my spoons and such in empty cans or plates and that means another plate to wash - or i've temporarily lost my spoon!
thanks for these links!
My mother also had a mod 70's plastic spoon rest on the stove. I thought it was a cool design at the time, but it always seemed to have some food stuck to it. :(
Instead of using a traditional spoon rest, I picked up 4 durable ceramic soy sauce dishes which you use to dip sushi. They are just big enough for the end of my spoons and to catch any drips. At the end of each night cooking, I throw them in the dish washer so they don't stay out on the counter and are always clean. They tuck into my kitchen drawer where I keep all my utensils very nicely. I also like how I can use them on sushi night for their intended purpose, 2-in-1!
I do love these bottle ones if I were to have a traditional one though!
I've seen these in gift shops and boutiques for years -- but they do look neat.
My favorite spoon rest, though, is my white ceramic butterfly that my mom made in college.
These are awesome as spoon rests and kitchen wall art. But beware - mine accidentally got too close to the burner while I was cooking and CRACK! the thing broke cleanly into two pieces!
