Thanks for the roundup! I'll be spreading this to the bakers & volunteers for BOS Bakesale :)
I'm participating in the online bake sale on march 30th through thetomatotart.com
I'm making brownie rollout cookies.
Personally, I'm going to subscribe to Noah Puckerman's business strategy. Great moneymaker.
Can anyone please tell me if I need both shortening and butter when making whoopie pies? Someone gave me a whoopie pie mix and it lists additional ingredients. It calls for both shortening and butter. Can I do without the shortening?
I'm asking in a comment because I don't know how long it'll take for my question to best posted...since I want to make these for Friday (my husband's 30th bday!).
Thank you in advance!
@ kitalita, I was thinking the same thing! What an excellent secret ingredient ;)
@Anita83 that really depends on the mix, but most classic whoopie pie recipes call for shortening instead of butter. It makes them softer and chewier. You can find trans fat-free shortening now in stores quite easily.
Thank you, Faith.
Anita83,
I do not use ANY shortening in my whoopie pie recipe: the cookies are soft for three days with butter alone. I'd say forgo the shortening...
