Recipe: Blake's Mt. Prospect

While doing a kitchen tour of Blake's well-utilized kitchen, I was treated to an early cocktail. Blake chose to name the drink Mt. Prospect but if there is already a name for this particularly excellent combination of ingredients... advanced apologies.

Blake had been experimenting the night before during a rare moment of household calm. Good at improvising and good at naming things, here's the result.

The Mt. Prospect*

May be scaled to any number of servings

Glass full of ice
2 parts bourbon or whiskey (Jim Beam in this case)
2 parts freshly squeezed small minneola tangelo juice
2 splashes Peychaud's Bitters
Squeeze of lime

Our drinks were made individually, but if it doesn't offend you too much, feel free to make this recipe in bulk. Start with ice, add the whiskey, followed by a freshly squeezed orange of your choice. Splash in the bitters and a squeeze of lime and then give it a good swoosh with a chopstick. Taste. Adjust to your liking. Enjoy.

Blake's son wanted in on the kitchen action, so he made a 'potion' out of tangelos, cranberry juice and 'olive juice.' And best of all, he drank it and liked it!

*In honor of Blake's Brooklyn neighborhood of Prospect Heights.
