[Laura Williams writes Laura Williams' Musings and she was the winner of our Ball Canning Jars Giveaway giveaway. She made homemade spaghetti sauce with local tomatoes and canned it in the jars. Here's an excerpt of her review at her blog.]
Canning Time - Spaghetti Sauce! Normally, I wouldn't use a packaged spaghetti sauce mix to make my sauce, but in this case, I am using three packets and 18 pounds of tomatoes.... each packet required 6lbs of tomatoes and 1/4 cup sugar.
Thanks is due to the following: My sister, who gave me these packets when she was cleaning out her pantry and taking stuff out she wouldn't use. To a local farmer who gave us the tomatoes. He gives us tomatoes every year. He usually lets us pick after the growing season is over. This year though, he dropped boxes off to us.
Ok, now that the tomatoes are weighed up, the sugar ready, etc. It's time to start.
Before I forget, I also want to mention that along with my tomatoes and mix, I am using the case of wide mouth, pint canning jars that I won from Apartment Therapy: The Kitchen. Thank you again!
