Mincing several cloves at once is one thing, but if you only need one or two cloves, you can leave your knife in the drawer. Mincing garlic with a fork makes the job quick and easy. Take a look!
All we do is peel the garlic clove and then press it with the tines of a fork. Scrape off the fork and press the clove again in the other direction. Repeat as many times as necessary until the cloves is as minced as you'd like it, and then pick out the hard stem-nub.
You can also use this method to make garlic paste. Just keep mashing the garlic until it forms a paste - no need to buy it in a tube anymore!
Do you have any other tricks for mincing garlic?

GENIUS
Woah!
Where's the like button? What a great idea.
I use my garlic press from Zyliss, the best ever. (There's garlic paste that you can buy??? Wow, lazy solution :D)
Best idea ever! Emma, I think I love you.
I'll have to try this mincing method. You can also make garlic paste with a mortar and pestle. Very fast and easy.
wow, this is genius! genius!! thank you.
I second the "like" button. AT totally needs "like" and "unlike" buttons.
I failed to mention how AWESOME this idea is. I HATE chopping garlic because it gets under my nails and the smell lingers for longer than I would like. From now on, this ibs going to be my way. THANKS!
I feel like such an idiot.
Using a little bit of salt when scraping with the fork will make it break down into a paste even faster.
Huh. Neato!
This goes into the "why didn't I think of this?" category. Very smart!
I saw the title and said-- out loud-- "brilliant!" And so I repeat: BRILLIANT!
After seeing the Zyliss mentioned in MetHome some 25 years ago, I made a mental note to get one. Well, finally, FINALLY, after actually moving to Switzerland (it's a Swiss garlic press), I got me a Zyliss.
It is THE BEST garlic press, ever. I regret waiting 25 years to get one! I now love pressing garlic -- it is so easy (fun!), easy to clean too. No fuss, no muss, and although this method looks easy, the Zyliss is easier. And faster.
Smash the garlic clove with the flat side of your knife. Lay the knife's flat side on the clove and bang it with your hand. Viola...minced garlic.
Iona, that's not a proper mince! Although, it is my favorite way to get garlic into a dish too : )
Is the garlic really that soft? I'm definitely going to be trying this!
Another tip, to get the peal off easily you can put garlic cloves in the microwave for 3-5 seconds. When they are a little bit warm the peels will slip right off.
I really liked this idea, but it didn't work when I tried it out tonight.
To get the peel off really easily, just follow Iona's instructions -- that's how I always get them off.
I tried this twice this week. Maybe my fork tines are too round, but this didn't work well. I'm back to mincing with a knife.
