David Lebovitz's Paris kitchen, you can't help but notice that the man has a lot of ice cream in his freezer! This is only fitting for a chef who has literally written the book on the perfect scoop of ice cream.
So, we were curious, and had to ask. What is David's favorite August ice cream?
His answer made us hungry for ice cream! He says....
My favorite August ice cream would have to be Raspberry Swirl. Berries, especially raspberries, are quite expensive in Paris and if you use them in a swirl, it maximizes their impact and flavor. And as I wrote in The Perfect Scoop, that was a favorite of my the young men who I buy my fish from, and I am the most popular person at my market each summer!
Of course, if you're lucky enough to live where raspberries are plentiful and inexpensive, I don't think there's anything more special that a bright-red batch of pure raspberry ice cream, or even another flavor, especially if you have just-picked berries. Of course, serving it with a compote of fresh peaches and nectarines, or stewed plums, makes it even better.
