From the department of "you learn something new everyday" comes this little morsel: after DCS was bought out by Fisher & Paykel, the original founders left to start Capital Cooking Equipment. They are manufacturing a line of gas ranges that are much like the DCS in design, construction and parts, but costing hundreds less.
So we started to nibble away at the Capital 30" Gas Range (model PSGR304N), and discovered it was, indeed a pretty nice machine. Compared to the DCS 30" range, it has a slightly smaller oven capacity (by .04 cubic feet!), an extra rack position, and is only missing that big 17,500 BTU center burner that the DCS sports. But for $500 less, it could be worth it.
We've also read glowing reviews of its design: recessed lighting (easier to clean), a spinning door handle (moves as you grip it), and easy-to-clean dials that don't stick out.

Hello. I'm intrigued with this manufacturer. As I have a small kitchen, I was excited to know that Capital has a 24" range as well. The main difference with the 30" is that the 24" convection oven puts out 22,000 btu (vs. 30,000 btu with the 30") and the IR broiler gets up to 15,000 btu (vs. 18,000 btu with 30"). Are these power differences a big deal? Thanks.
