I just love when a product is well designed and elegant enough to go from the kitchen to the dining table. Such is the case with this fantastically chunky chopping block, designed by Bodum. I can see it on a stylish, self-serve bar during a cocktail party where guests can slice themselves a wedge of lemon or lime to finish off their adult beverage or as a pedestal for a trio of rich cheeses.
The cutting block is constructed of Danish beech wood and teak and is made by Bodum. I picked mine up at the Conran Shop in London, but in the States, they are available many boutiques that specialize in modern kitchenware and home accessories, such as OK in Los Angeles.

And tucked it into your hand luggage for the flight home? I salute you! I'd never have the balls to bring something like that with me on a plane.
I was already carrying a terra cotta baking dish in my carry on so I actaully packed the chopping block in my luggage. It was so heavy that I got charged an overweight fee. But it was worth it.
I am laughing because I just made my poor boyfriend carry home 45 poungd of Puglian terra cotta bake and server ware from Bari because my carry on was full of fresh pressed olive oil and wine..... hehehe.
BUT more importantly.... New York ATers should make a rule of hitting the Bodum flag ship store in the Meat Packing Dist. regularly.. they have crazy sales all the time and tend to construct elaborate displays and sell off the display models for dirt cheap... Back when I lived in the city, i got a 75 dollar french press there for 24 bucks... brand new .
I came across this innovative design some time ago. While this would only take a few minutes in the wood shop, I like it for its simple design and total functionality.
